Christian Dior a maintenant 20 ans.
On a cold, cloudy day in Paris, in the shadow of the Colonne Vendôme, Valentino’s creative director Alessandro Michele prepares for his first haute couture show for the iconic Italian fashion house. “It’s a beginning… like every beginning, it’s beautiful but also stressful.” As he looks over his collection, Michele reflects on his approach to beauty in contrast to the legendary Valentino Garavani’s. In the atelier, skilled artisans meticulously sew and stitch, their hands moving with practiced precision as they transform delicate fabrics into intricate masterpieces. Michele’s stunning couture collection includes a sculptural floral dress—equal parts 1950s tapestry and the makings of an adventurous child with scissors and an outdated carpet.

In episode 3, renowned fashion designer David Tlale joins us for a conversation on creativity, legacy, and staying true to your vision.
South African fashion designer David Tlale is making waves in the fashion industry by championing a bold vision: to revolutionise the African fashion scene and revive the local clothing and textile industry.
In Episode 3 of the popular podcast Threads & Thoughts, Tlale shares his inspiring perspective on why it’s time to shift the global mindset and recognise South African fashion for its quality, creativity, and cultural significance.
Fashion as a Platform for Revolution and Economic Growth
David Tlale emphasises that African fashion, especially that which is made in South Africa, deserves more than just admiration on the red carpet. It is a powerful platform that can drive economic development by breathing new life into the clothing and textile sectors. According to Tlale, this transformation requires a change in mentality — appreciating local fashion not only for its aesthetic but for the hard work, innovation, and daily dedication behind it.
Changing the Narrative Around African Fashion Tlale’s message goes beyond style and glamour. He calls for a deeper appreciation of African designers who are committed to excellence and craftsmanship. This shift in perception can help build a sustainable future for the industry, one where local talent is nurtured and celebrated globally. By supporting South African fashion, consumers and industry stakeholders can contribute to a cultural legacy that empowers communities and fosters economic independence.

BACK TO THE FUTURE
Schiaparelli presents BACK TO THE FUTURE, the Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2025-2026 Show by Daniel Roseberry, July 7th, 10am.
Le Petit Palais, Paris, France.
About Schiaparelli
With her wild imagination and revolutionary approach to fashion, Elsa Schiaparelli instilled a unique creative spirit to 20th-century design. Turning ordinary objects into some of the most memorable creations, Schiaparelli expressed her creative talents through fashion, fragrance, and what we refer to today as “merchandising”, blurring the boundaries between creative brilliance and commercial success, and developing an innovative business model that is still used by most major fashion houses today.
Elsa Schiaparelli’s iconic collaborations with artists like Dalí, Cocteau, Man Ray, Jean-Michel Franck, and Giacometti, among others, became legendary. Her legacy has consistently contributed to mainstream culture throughout the decades and continues to inspire people across creative industries and continents. A true artist herself, Schiaparelli is the creative force behind some of fashion’s most revolutionary shapes, techniques, and colors, redefining new standards of style and what beauty means. In 2019, the house of Schiaparelli appointed American-born designer Daniel Roseberry as Creative Director, based in the iconic Salons Schiaparelli at 21 Place Vendôme, Elsa’s home and atelier.
